What to Get Next
A lot of new players begin with one of the 2-Player Starter Boxes. These come with a Light, Medium, and Heavy HE-V each in 2 different styles. It’s a great place to start learning the game with a friend. The Suggestions below are great ways to enhance and expand your force and add variety to your games.
I Need Some Terrain
If you aren’t already playing any 6-10mm games, you may not have any appropriately scaled terrain on hand. You’ll want a mix of buildings and ruins with a base plate to show the area that they occupy. The easiest sets that will get you started are the Skyline: City Set and the Skyline: Stack Pack. The Stack Pack is also available as an STL for printing at home and is a very compact and affordable option for gamers on the go.

I Want a Bigger Force
The main way to expand your force is to simply add more HE-V’s. There are a variety of HE-V singles and faction boxes that offer different aesthetics. Multi-part kits also offer you plenty of parts to kit-bash and make your HE-Vs your own. You’ll want a copy of the Core Rulebook, if you don’t already have one, as it contains all the rules and costs for the various chassis and upgrades. If you started with a full Faction Box, you might need an individual HE-V or two, but it’s typically not neccasary to get a second faction box for the same force.
I Want More Variety
The first expansion, Steel Rift: Burning Horizons (SR:BH), includes rules for a variety of On-Table Support Assets. These include Ultra-Light HE-V Squads, Light/Recon Vehicle Squads, and Infantry with Deployable Bunkers. You’re only able to field one of each of these Support Assets in your Force currently, but in a full 200 ton game, you can use all 3 at the same time if desired.
The second expansion book Steel Rift: Close Quarters (SR:CQ) doubles the number of weapons and upgrades from the core book. Focusing on Melee weapons with new and extra abilities, this expansion amplifies your close-range damage. SR:CQ also contains upgrades that are great for ranged-focused forces and presents 3 new team types to add a greater variety of strategies and Secondary Agendas to your arsenal.
I Want More HE-V Upgrades (Especially New Melee Weapons)
